Forged in Freedom: The Bond of the Seward Tubman Families

  • Seward House Museum 33 South Street Auburn, NY, 13021 United States (map)

"Forged in Freedom" considers the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman through the lens of her relationship with the family of William H. Seward. At the center of the exhibit is the story of Margaret Stewart, a young girl from the Eastern Shore of Maryland placed in the care of the Sewards in Auburn. Margaret's story tells us much about Tubman and links the National Park Service sites in Maryland and Auburn, and Upstate NY with the Chesapeake region.
